About Me

Andrea Lyn Van BenschotenI have been seriously crocheting since 2001. Since that time, I have joined the Crochet Guild of America (COGA) and am currently a Professional Member. I have taught several crochet classes at adult schools, yarn shops and art studios and have demonstrated crochet and spinning at Peters Valley in Layton, NJ. I’ve had many patterns published in books and magazines, plus an essay in the collection Hooked.

When I teach, I focus on beginners and love to see the “Ah ha” moment! When creating designs, I try to keep them accessible to all levels and work to take those few stitches we all initially learned and join them together so a crocheter at any level can have the satisfaction of completing a project.

I live in Rockaway, NJ with my husband of 19 years Glenn and her cockatiel Mendelssohn.

  1. I have a copy of Crochet one skein wonders which includes a pattern for hair scrunchies designed by yourself.
Calls for 1 and 1/2 ” hair elastics. Could you expand on the measurement here? Is the size that you stated length, diameter, etc? Thank you

    1. Hi Candise,
Thank you for reaching out. That is a general hair elastic. It is usually listed on the packaging. I don’t have one with me, but I can certainly check on the size when I get home.

  2. I have a copy of Crochet One-Skein Wonders which has a pattern for Mobius Cowl which you designed. The gauge is 4 rows = 4″ which is the same as 1 row = 1″. My gauge worked out correct. The pattern calls for 41 rows which would be 41″ however the finished measurements are approximately 24″ circumference and 8″ wide. My piece is 8″ wide and after doing 41 rows and following the instructions for finishing, the cowl was huge, not even close to the 24″ circumference. Should this pattern be 24 rows or am I missing something? Thank you
